Etna is a small, unincorporated community in the center of Etna Township in Licking County, Ohio. Only about 1,215 people lived in Etna as of the 2010 census.

Etna is located east of Columbus and is neighbored by Kirkersville, Pataskala, Pickerington, Reynoldsburg, Baltimore, and Millersport. Like its neighbor Kirkersville, Etna sits on US Route 40 and I-70, making it easy to go to Columbus to the west or Buckeye Lake to the east.

The community of Etna is served by the Southwest Licking School District.* Like most of Central Ohio, the schools here are considered good to great and rank well on sites such as Niche.

Though Etna is a small community, there are plenty of career opportunities both in and around the area. In addition to the many places to work in nearby Columbus, Etna has small businesses, retail, restaurants, healthcare facilities, warehouses, and fulfillment centers.

Since it’s so close to Columbus, there’s always something to do in the area. One local favorite is High Point Park in Etna, which offers a nice spot for picnics, walks, and community events. There are also several golf courses nearby and Buckey Lake State Park offers outdoor recreation year-round.

Etna, originally known as “Carthage,” was laid out in 1832 when the National Road (US Route 40) was being constructed to that point. The name Etna comes from Etna Township. The Etna post office has been in operation since 1833.
